Observation in Svend Gønge Skole

On the 30th of April we went with our class to Lundy. We observed the classroom environment and the resources in Svend Gøng Skole. The task was to find out which approaches of teaching are possible in this school environment.

There are three different approaches of teaching:

1. Executive Approach
The executive approach is teacher-centered. The teacher explains everything and the students just listen. The main focus lays on knowledge.

In some classes it would have been possible to apply the executive approach. We couldn't really observe this method in a whole lesson, but in one class the introduction of the lesson was teacher-centered.

2. Facilitator Approach

The facilitator approach is student-centered. The teacher focuses on the students needs and backgrounds and on the students as unique persons. The teacher facilitates environment for the children.

We couldn't really observe this kind of approach on the basis of the resources.

3. Liberationist Approach

The liberationist approach is also student-centered and focused on knowledge and aims. The student should develop social skills to lead a civilized life. The aim is that the students become responsible and independent individuals of society.

On the basis of the observed classroom management we think that this approach is high frequently used in this school:
  • The students worked independently.
  • They could decide on their own if they wanted to work in groups or alone / inside or outside the classroom.
  • The children could choose between several worksheets and took the worksheet appropriate to their abbilities.
  • There were materials in the cupboards, which could be used in class.
  • Every class has its own rules for a good cooperation.

Further observations in the school:
  • computer corner outside the classroom
  • big library
  • big gym
  • assembly hall
  • green areas outside the school
  • group tables in some classes
  • kitchen unit and fridge in every classroom
  • white boards in almost every class
  • tables infornt of the calsses

visits :)

In April my Boyfriend came to visit me here in Denmark. We spent a great time together  and had a lot of fun.

Because of the changeable weather we did not do that much sight seeing. But we were at some very beautiful places and enjoyed our time. :)

At the end of April my grandparents came to visit me. We did so much sight seeing. I got to know so many places of Denmark. There are many beautiful castles, churches, beaches and so on.
It is impressing that there is such a different atmosphere in the whole country. The sea has such a positive effect on the people and everything seems more decelerated than e. g. in Austria.

We had a great time together and tried to see as much as we could.

Sunny Days in Vordingborg

It is actually getting warmer in Vordingborg. The sun is coming out and everybody loves being outside. Playing Ligretto on the terrace is one of the things we love to do on warm and sunny days. :)

We already had our first Ice-Cream and went to the beach WITHOUT a coat. :)

Playing Bingo, going to Prinsen, celebrating Birthdays and going to the Casino-Party was much fun in these days, too. It is always nice to see other people and to chat with everybody. I learnd so much in these month and made so many new experiences with people from other countries by now. It is always exciting and interesting to hear something new.

Our second common dinner was an enrichment for me. Trying so many different kinds of food is a great experience because you get to know the food cultures of other countries.
Moreover it is funny that some people already know some kinds of the typical food of your country, even if they are from a completely different culture.

Easter in Oslo

Friday, the 29th of March was a very exciting day. Two friends and I were extremely spontaneous and just booked a ferry to Oslo for the next day.
Not even 14 hours later we were sitting in the train to Copenhagen and started our trip.

In the afternoon we were at the ship to check in and to get our cabins, but there were no free ones. "Unfortunately" we had to wait and got free hot chocolate because of the circumstances. :)

After about one hour we got a cabin and felt very comfortable at the ship. It was a great experience to go to another country by ferry with some friends. We all were so excited that we were happy about nearly everything. Some guys were sitting in the whirlpools, on the deck of the ship, although it was very cold and windy outside. We immediately took some pictures of them.

We slept well on the ferry because we were looking forward visiting Oslo.

On the next day, we woke up in another country. It was amazing. There was such a beautiful weather and so many new things to see. The sky was blue and we could not find any clouds on the sky. We were walking through the city and gathering so much impressions. Of course we bought some souvenirs and enjoyed our stay there.

The walk to our hotel was a bit scary, because we had to walk through such a dark and awkward district where many poor people were sitting on the street. It was a good feeling, when we reached the hotel well. We were a bit afraid the whole night too. But when we were at the centre of the city again on the next day, we thought that it was a good experience to see the "dark" side of the city, either.

We enjoyed our last day in Norway and relaxed in the sun at the harbour.

When we got back to Denmark on Tuesday, we were so exhausted but full with new impressions and experiences. Everyone of us is glad that we did this trip. It was a great easter-weekend! :)
